1. Sandy Hook Promise is national - currently in 7000 schools from all 50 states and growing fast, so you can definitely help where you live. Start by going to sandyhookpromise.org and Make The Promise. We can then help you with specific activities where you live, including sharing our mission/message, bringing our no-cost programs to your community, donating to help deliver the programs, becoming a Trainer or Promise Leader, or advocating for sensible legislation.2. I ignore people who actively work against me. I work very well with people that don't always share my opinion - you can learn so much from respectful conversation - but if someone is obviously only interested in making noise, I ignore them and put my energy elsewhere
3. We all talk to each other and coordinate each other where it makes sense, but we don't work together on every single idea. Firstly, because we don't want to duplicate each other. Second, we each have a unique path of how we are implementing change. A movement is not one person or one organization - it is many working toward a common goal but staying laser-focused on their lane in the highway and the people they are trying to reach.Hope that helps! -

Hi! I'm graduating this May with a Theatre-Performance degree from SDSU. I will be moving to LA, when my lease ends in San Diego, at the end of this summer to pursue a career in Film/Television. What pieces of advice could you give to someone like me, who is about to make a transition into the professional world? What do you attribute your success to? What is your definition of success? And lastly, what steps should I take to prepare myself for success in the industry?

My favorite memory from The View is the sisterhood! No matter how opinionated we all were on camera, behind the scenes many of us formed a friendship that still exists today.
As for exciting initiatives, we launched earlier this year The International Association of Women (https://www.iawomen.com)and I am excited to help women globally in person and online reach their career goals and dream, rise, and lead! What an exciting time to be a phenomenal woman! -

Great question. I get asked this a lot. It is a journey and you have to be looking for it and be willing to ask yourself the hard questions. For me, I thought my WHY was to play soccer for my country and then my coach actually pulled me aside and said "if you think your purpose on this earth is to kick a soccer ball for Canada, then I've failed you". It rocked me but it made me ask myself, "why am I here then". He has a reason for asking that because he has watched me and was challenging me to see myself beyond being only an athlete.
Because I asked myself that question over and over, I started looking for the answers, and when you start looking you will always find things. It lead me to becoming a UNICEF ambassador and once I did my 1st trip with UNICEF things started to become clearer. Our lives are not about us, but about how we can use what we have been through to help others. We all have our own story and our own difficulties, but the lessons we learn in the difficult times, are meant to be shared to help others.I know I want to impact people for the better and the HOW... if I live my true and authentic life, then that will happen. If you go about and try to be the best version of yourself in all ways everyday...and I mean as a woman, a sister, a mother, a daughter, a friend, a co-worker, a leader...in all ways, the answer will start to become clearer to you. We all have a greatness within in, it is just we lose it because the world tells us other wise. We all have a purpose on this earth, and all are just as important as the person next to us. The impact you may have may be intended for a bigger group of people, or it may be for one person. When you start to live the life you are meant to live, your WHY will become clearer. One other thing, in terms of impact, everyone thinks to really matter you have to impact many people. The truth is first be the person that impacts your own self, in that I mean, be the person where you inspire your own self. Then in being that person, and surrounding yourself with the right people who want to help lift you up, that is when you start living the life you are meant to live. When you do that, things will start to occur.Be your best self to everyone. Try it. Even when you go to get coffee at the shop, be present. Ask the person who is making your coffee 'how are you doing'. When you start to value other people, you start to value yourself. Everyone wants to feel valued and that they matter. Start directly around you and see what happens. You will light up that fire within and that will also be a part of the journey.By the way, a lot of people don't know their WHY on this earth so this was a great question. Hope I was able to answer it well! -

Laila, do you have any advice about being big breasted? How do you handle situations when a man is noticing your body? Do you embrace it? Does it make you feel good to know that a man admires you? Do you feel empowered? As you can see by my previous post, I find it empowering to be an attractive woman with a nice body! Just wondering your thoughts? Thanks Laila!

Hi Danica! For me personally, Meditation was a game changer! After doing a lot of speaking on the subject this year I've come to learn that for many...being silent and still is extremely intimidating and even scary. Its so interesting how we can all devote so much time throughout the day to scrolling socials or getting caught up in random things but the thought of spending time with ourselves and being quiet is so frightening. Learning to love on yourself though silence and alone time is so POWERFUL and freeing. As women we often spend so much of our lives and who we are being of service in some capacity to other people. Learning how to say "no", reclaiming your time and sharing that time with YOU is one of the best ways to find peace and release stress. I truly believe meditation is a great way to start that journey for yourself. In primordial meditation (the kind I practice) it is suggested that you meditate 2x per day, 25 minutes each time. ALWAYS start in the morning before your day begins and then late afternoon (think right after work but before dinner). When your just getting started, 25minutes 2x a day sounds crazy lol. But if you can at least commit to spending 15 minutes in the morning in meditation you will absolutely experience great benefit. You do not need any tools or help to do this but if you are interested in guided meditations then a few apps I love are: "Ananda" and "simple habit"

Hi Shantel! If you’re about to start your own consulting firm, keep in mind that revenue is what will keep your business going. Before starting, secure a stream of revenue. You will spend most of your time selling: to potential clients, then to your future employees, to partners, maybe to investors... More than an exceptional expert at something that has real value, you first have to be a business person, obsessed with pragmatic outcomes.

Hola Thalia, we are birthday twin! Watching the trailer of Quinceneara, do you feel these girls represent what it is to be Latino in the U.S. in today's society? Also I enjoyed the comment of one of the girl's, that a Quinceneara brings her closer to her roots. I didn't have one because I felt that I didn't have to expose myself letting everyone know "I'm a women now". Unfortunately the history behind a Quinceneara in the Spanish (Spain) culture, where it started, isn't positive. Thank you for what you are doing as a mother as well.

Thank you. I think there were many lessons from the Freedom to Marry campaign, many elements of success that can be adapted to other causes and battles – and there are certainly plenty underway right now! Before winding down, we compiled a lot of them on our website -- http://www.freedomtomarry.org/lessons-learned. I am now advising and assisting other organizations, other causes, and other countries, and often talk about what I call the “ladder of clarity” (see, for example, this piece I wrote -- http://bit.ly/2mUCqF4) and other key elements of success. The new documentary, also called THE FREEDOM TO MARRY, shows as well as tells some of the key elements of how we transformed hearts and minds, and then the law. I am happy it’s being embraced by other movements (immigration rights, gun control, environment, as well as LGBT causes) as a way of sharing inspiration and instruction (https://freedomtomarrymovie.com/).

I was the only person who looked like me who was doing comedy when I started in the 80s. Not having anybody to look up to or see that was like me, was isolating. I just really wanted to be a standup comedian and I just did it...I worked hard. I loved it and I still love it, you just have to love what you do and go for it with all your might. I think now for Asian Americans, the biggest struggle we have is lack of visibility. Also, we constantly compete with our parents vision of what we should be. I think its really important to follow your heart and do what you love regardless of who else is out there and what your family thinks.

Gabriela, yes it was really cool. Mostly, I was surrounded with incredible talent; artists, writers, stylists, gardeners, designers, crafters, chefs all brought together by Martha. When my kids were a little older, after working as a writer and freelance cook, I applied for two jobs, one at Gourmet Magazine and the other at MSLO. Choosing the offer from Martha was a good move because I was given so many opportunities to grow. She is one of the most evolutionary thinkers I know.

The incidents of #RomeoFraud and #FinancialPredator crimes against ageing women are devastating the financial security of a generation of women who built our feminist culture. Despite reports of these crimes to Law Enforcement there are very few arrests and convictions. Underreported financial crimes against women result in inaccurate statistics of the resulting poverty as many lose inheritances, assets and cash savings after being targeted by Nigerian 419 and domestic enterprises committing the acts as a flourishing non taxed source of income. How can you help legislate against this form of organized crime against women of America? "The One That Got Away by Brigitte Knowles." Michelle Daines

Thank you! I would say my role model growing up and I still admire him today, is Michael Phelps. We both grew up in Baltimore and I watched him thrive, struggle, and grow into what he is today. I admired his hard work ethic and his dedication to the sport. I admire that he opened up last fall to SI and shared his struggles and just how hard it is to achieve such a big dream. We all have struggles to achieve our dreams. Michael has shown me that there are ups and downs in your path to your dreams but don't ever give up.

Actually, I never wanted to be a fashion designer when I was growing up. I wanted to be an actress, which I was in my home country. I truly believe that the profession chose me instead of me choosing it. It started with a dream that I had one night where I could see the most amazing dresses falling down from the sky. I laid down on the lawn and I looked at those dresses and I could see every single detail. And I woke up that morning and looked at the sky and said, 'God, I understand what you're saying - but you're going to have to help me. I've never studied fashion!' And here I am 26 years later. When I actually first came to Kleinfeld, they didn't like my dresses. And they didn't want them. And I left and I cried all the way back home for 10 hours on the plane. I said 'This can't be happening to me. I will be one of the most influential designers.' And it happened. I'm so happy that my story can inspire people who are discouraged by one event or the other. My story tells people not to give up. Today I am Kleinfeld's number one designer - selling more than 10,000 dresses a year at Kleinfeld alone.

Naomi, I am an activist and political scientist who has found herself currently homeless. Having now been on the inside of female shelters I see the crisis facing women with a precision and understanding I did not have prior to becoming homeless one week ago. Considering that you are an established activist who earns for her social justice work, I feel as though I need to ask you this question: how should and can vocal female activists protect themselves and loved ones from harm? I have been a victim of identity theft, slander, unlawful confinement and torture, domestic violence, rape and physical abuse. I am asking this for both myself as I am only 5 years into the activism world and also on behalf of those women just getting started who do not want to experience these negative consequences of trying to further progression. You are an inspiration. Thank you for doing what you do. Best, Arielle
