Ed Sheeran Gave His Girlfriend His Shoes And The Internet Is Losing Their Shit, Because, Chivalry Is Dead
I'm sorry, mom and dad, you wanted better from me. You thought I'd be reporting hard-hitting journalism; changing the way we view subjects like women's rights, or women standing up for their political beliefs in a sea of opposition.
I've clearly failed you, and I'm sorry. My career has taken a saddening turn, so let's just jump right into it: ED SHEERAN GAVE HIS SHOES TO HIS GIRLFRIEND BECAUSE SHE BROKE HERS, AND OMG OMG OMG, THIS IS A BIG DEAL BECAUSE THE INTERNET FORGOT ABOUT CHIVALRY!
Whew, glad I got that out.
Last Wednesday, apparently hell froze over, and Ed Sheeran gave his sneakers to girlfriend, Cherry Seaborn, because love isn't dead, and the internet likes to give praise for a guy acting like a gentleman.
Look, here's the proof!
THE. ACTUAL. PROOF!
LOOK EVEN CLOSER!
AHHHHHH, THOSE ARE THE SHOES!
First off, look's like homegirl's shoes cost the equivalent of one month's rent.
And secondly, I'm sorely depressed that this is even a story worth reporting.
If you follow my writing, you probably already know I'm a pretty conservative person. If not, check out my top three articles people most likely hate and you'll get the idea that I believe in a 80% traditional lifestyle. For example, I expect a man to pay on the first date. Now, I don't care if that first date is your local Ihop because #pancakesarethebest but I believe in chivalry, and the sad part is, that stories like these, are further proof that society has forgotten what that has even looked like.
We're so used to seeing stories reported on ACTUAL NONSENSE, that when a famous singer does something sweet for his girlfriend, the internet loses its' shit over it.
Love is not dead, people. There are millions of men just like Ed Sheeran who do romantic gestures for their significant others all the time. Yes, I get that the swarms of chivalrous men don't get the kind of attention that our Eddy the Teddy gets (Ed, please keep that nickname between us) but I wish that stories like this, in one perspective, didn't get so much attention for being out of the norm.
This is what you're supposed to do. It's the same thing as giving your girl your coat when she's cold and paying on the first date. It's old school, it's traditional, but it's a real shame that people have forgotten what a true, gentleman looks like. He's the kind of guy that opens the car door for you, and pulls your chair out for you when you go out to eat. I feel that there are so many people now who claim that they would never want that, but I'll argue it's because men aren't raised to do that anymore. It's become easier to say 'Oh, I would never want that' when you're the furthest from receiving that kind of treatment.
Our society has developed the mindset of 'every man for himself' and I wish more women knew that they're deserving of the kind of romance that does those small, classic chivalrous moments, because every women deserves to have their moment when their heel breaks, and their boyfriend give his kicks to her until they get to the car.
I went through ten years of dating with the treatment of me playing second fiddle to my partner. It was always about what he wanted to watch, his time frame, when HE wanted to text me back. I had gotten comfortable with that, as I think a lot of other females have too, because let's face it, dating in today's world is complicated. Then, I met my fiance, who to this day, after years together, opens the car door for me. People look at him weird, they call me a diva, and it's sad that people ruin an act that he seen his dad, and his granddad continue through this day - treating a woman with respect.
Chivalry isn't dead, but it certainly had been forgotten.
