Rebecca Meyers, who prefers to go by Becca, began swimming in 2000 at the age of six in Baltimore, Maryland. She was born with Usher syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that left her deaf andcauses progressive vision loss. Becca had a breakout debut performance at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, where she won a silver medal in the 200m individual medley and a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle. Becca was the only deaf athlete on the U.S. Paralympic team in 2012. After London,Becca continued her success in the 2013 and 2015 World Championships. She is a four-time World Championship gold medalist, and a three-time World Championship silver medalist. In September 2016, Becca smashed her own world record in the 100m butterfly and won three gold medals at the Paralympic Games in Rio. Becca also set the world record in the 400 free in Rio and won a silver medal in Rio. She owns 6 world records (100 fly, 200 free, 400 free, 800 free, 1500 free, and 400 IM). She additionally is the recipient of the 2016 Trischa L. Zorn award (Best swimmer with a disability) from USA Swimming. Becca is a full-time student at Franklin and Marshall, where she plans to graduate with a degree in history in 2018.
